Freeport I-295 exit reopened after truck overturns

The northbound I-295 off ramp in Freeport was closed Friday morning while crews removed an overturned tractor-trailer.

The truck overturned on the off ramp of exit 24 around 5:30 a.m. when the driver drifted off the right side of the road and struck an embankment, according to Maine State Police. The truck landed on the road.

The driver, a 42-year-old Colorado man, was wearing a seatbelt and was removed from the truck by the Freeport Fire Department. He was taken to Maine Medical Center with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, police said.

The off ramp was closed while recovery crews removed the truck and cleaned the scene. The crews continued to work from Route 1 and expected limited impact to traffic, wrote Lt. Aaron Turcotte.

State Police were assisted at the scene by the Maine Department of Transportation and the Freeport police and fire departments.
