Frederick police investigating body found in woods, reported on radio

Frederick police are investigating the death of an individual found in the woods after multiple reports, including one called into a local radio show.

The police found the body “in a wooded area off *East Street and Carroll Creek Crossing,” the department said on Facebook on Friday. The body has not yet been positively identified, Samantha Long, department spokesperson, said in an email Saturday. Long said the body was found on East Street and Monocacy Boulevard.

A man who identified himself as “Joseph” called in DC101’s “Elliot in the Morning” broadcast on Friday and told the hosts he had found a body at a Frederick County campsite 18 days before.

“This may sound sick, but I’ve always wanted to come upon something like that,” he told the hosts of the program. “Luckily, it was months old, so that was nice,” he said.

“Joseph” hadn’t called the police at the time he called in, but said the body was in a “tent city from a year ago that was shut down.”

“I assume this guy just died in his sleep,” the caller said. Host Elliot Segal encouraged him to call the police immediately.

“We are aware of the information discussed on a radio program. At this stage, we are not releasing details about how the department was notified,” Long said. “The only information we can confirm is that detectives received multiple calls and located an individual yesterday.”

“As part of standard practice, detectives will review the circumstances. It is too early to classify the manner of death,” Long said.
