This family bought another lot to keep the stunning views. Now the $900K log home is for sale.

Light and bright isn’t often how you’d think of a log home.

But this one, in Hampton Township, was designed to have a view from every room giving it lots of windows and natural light.

The four-bedroom, four-bathroom, 3,760-square-foot home on more than 8 acres is listed for sale for $899,000.

The current owners had the home custom built in 2010 by Katahdin Cedar Log homes. It was designed specifically for its location to take advantage of the views of Kittattiny Mountain and farms surrounding the property.

They even went so far as to buy a second, adjacent lot, so that it couldn’t be built upon and obstruct their view.

“By combining the two lots they were able to get a farmland assessment,” said Marjorie Morville of Coldwell Banker Realty, the listing agent.

Despite its rural views, the home is about 10 minutes from shopping and other conveniences, she said.

By putting lighter Pine and Cedar wood on the walls inside the home, it also makes the house brighter. “The log walls sometimes make log homes really dark inside,” Morville said, but the design choice of the wood used for the walls combined with an A-frame wall of windows in the living room brighten the space.

“The views were the biggest thing people commented on,” she said of the nearly three dozen people who toured the home at an open house.

They also raised the roof several logs higher than it was originally planned to be, enhancing the living area’s vaulted ceilings.

You enter the home into the vast living room, which has a wood-burning stove. The adjacent kitchen has custom cabinets, an island, granite countertops and a dining area with sliding doors leading to a patio. The first floor also has a mudroom, a laundry room, a bedroom, a full bathroom and the primary suite.

A staircase with log railings leads to the second floor where there is a loft, two more bedrooms and a full bathroom.

The finished, walk-out basement has an in-law suite with a full kitchen, a bedroom and a bathroom. That level also has a game room, a living and dining area and storage. Outside, there is a fire pit and a hot tub.

The second lot, which is 3.75 acres, is buildable, Morville said, adding, “The reason it’s priced where it is, is because it has that extra lot.”

The median sale price of a home in Hampton Township, in Sussex County, was $488,829 in July, according to the most recent data available from New Jersey Realtors.

The home would be good for a large family or someone who wants to combine households with parents or grown children.

“It’s one of those houses that you drive by and wonder what it looks like on the inside,” she said.
