BASEBALL
The Baltimore Orioles recalled relief pitcher Colin Selby, a Chesapeake native, from the Norfolk Tides on Thursday.
Selby, a 2018 draft pick of the Pittsburgh Pirates, has gone 3-0 with a 2.38 ERA and 31 strikeouts in 22 2/3 innings with the Tides this season.
He has appeared in 30 MLB games, including four with the Orioles earlier this season. He owns a 3.18 ERA in those games with 10 strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings.
The Orioles also optioned catcher David Bañuelos to the Tides after the first game of a split doubleheader with the Mets.

Huguenot WR/DB commits to HU
Huguenot High (Richmond) wide receiver/defensive back Malik Porter announced Thursday on X that he has committed to Hampton University.
The 6-0, 175-pounder chose the Pirates over East Carolina, Marshall and Howard, according to VirginiaPreps.com.

Rodgers wins VSGA Jr. Stroke Play
Colton Rodgers of Great Falls sank a 40-foot eagle putt on the 16th hole and shot a 6-under-66 for a one-shot victory over Josh Cummins of Christiansburg in the VSGA Junior Stroke Play Championship on Thursday at Two Rivers Country Club in Williamsburg.
Rodgers, a member at River Bend Club, posted rounds of 67-72-66 for a three-day total of 11-under 205.
Virginia Beach’s Max Bradshaw, who was tied for second after the first round, shot a 1-over 73 and placed ninth.
Thomas Aman of Newport News was the only other Hampton Roads player in the top 20. He tied for 18th.

NSU trio to play in HBCU game
Norfolk State baseball players Justin Journette, Jamal Ritter and Jalan Jones will take part in the HBCU Swingman Classic at 7 p.m. Friday.
MLB Network will televise the game, which is at Truist Park in Atlanta and is part of MLB All-Star Week.
- Twelve UVA baseball players have made the ACC All-Academic Team: Blake Barker, Eric Becker,
Harrison Didawick, Jacob Ference, Chone James, Dean Kampschror, Matt Lanzendorder, Alex Markus, James Nunnallee, Ryan Osinski, Aidan Teel and Tomas Valincius.
WOMEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL
Spartans add Staples to staff
The Norfolk State women’s basketball program has hired Mossi Staples as the director of operations and an assistant coach.
Staples spent last season as a graduate assistant under current NSU head coach Jermaine Woods at Coppin State. The Eagles went 19-15 and defeated Colgate in the first round of the WNIT.
Staples also played three seasons at Coppin State after starting her career at Northeastern.
