Man dies after being hit by vehicle while trying to cross Mercury Boulevard in Hampton – The Virginian-Pilot

HAMPTON — A man died after he was hit by a vehicle while attempting to cross the road Monday.

Around 12:20 a.m., dispatchers received a call for an accident involving a pedestrian at the intersection of West Mercury Boulevard and Big Bethel Road, according to a release.

Hampton Police Division and Hampton Fire and Rescue units arrived and found a man with life-threatening injuries laying in the road. He was taken to a local hospital, where he died, according to police.

A preliminary investigation found the man was attempting to cross the westbound lanes of West Mercury Boulevard when he was hit by a vehicle. The driver stayed on scene and is cooperating with the investigation, police said. There was no crosswalk at the location where the pedestrian attempted to cross. The man’s identity is not being released, pending notification to next-of-kin, according to police.

The crash is under investigation by the Hampton Police Division’s Reconstruction Team.

No other information has been released.
