Metcalf’s name has been swirling in trade rumors, but it appears New England isn’t on his wishlist of destinations.
If standout wide receiver DK Metcalf does end up in trade conversations this offseason, don’t expect New England to be among the destinations he hopes to end up in.
Since one of the Patriots’ biggest offseason needs is a No. 1 receiver, and Metcalf’s name has come up in hypothetical trade scenarios for receiver-needy teams, some fans in New England naturally had Metcalf near the top of their offseason wishlists.
However, the same feelings aren’t being reciprocated by the Seahawks wideout. Speaking on “The Casuals” podcast with Katie Nolan, Nolan asked Metcalf if he’d ever consider living in Massachusetts, seemingly attempting to gauge Metcalf’s interest in the Patriots in a more casual way.
Metcalf quickly fired off a “no,” before adding that it didn’t have to do with the Patriots themselves.
“It’s not a desirable place in my opinion,” Metcalf said. “Great organization, though.”
Metcalf would clearly not be thrilled to be dealt to New England this offseason.
That being said, New England’s ability to take on cap hits, coupled with its desirable draft picks in 2025, would make it a prime contender to pull off a trade for a big-name receiver like Metcalf from a front office perspective.
There are still two major names out there that the Patriots could pull off a trade for if they are made available: A.J. Brown and Tyreek Hill.
Brown has ties to Mike Vrabel from their time together in Tennessee. Along with that, Brown also grew up a Patriots fan and cried when New England passed on him in the draft to select N’Keal Harry instead. Brown has also voiced frustrations with his role in the Eagles offense, and could request a trade in the offseason if he remains unhappy.
However, Philadelphia is still in contention for the Super Bowl, and winning a championship could be enough to smooth things out with Brown and the Eagles this offseason. But, if he does want out, the Patriots would be a compelling location with mutual interest.
Hill doesn’t have any major ties to the Patriots, but was mentioned by an anonymous executive to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler as a player New England could attempt to lure to Foxborough via trade. Hill voiced his frustrations with the Dolphins after their disappointing season came to a close, and seemingly indicated he would like to be traded.
Receivers will without a doubt be at the forefront of offseason conversations regarding New England, although Metcalf has quieted the rumors tying him to the Patriots organization.
