Here’s the midweek roundup of state college lacrosse games played from Sunday, April 13 to Wednesday, April 16.
Division I women
No. 8 Maryland 8, Rutgers 7: Kori Edmondson (McDonogh) completed her hat trick and the comeback by scoring the go-ahead goal with less than five minutes left to play to lift the visiting Terps (11-4, 6-1 Big Ten) over the Scarlet Knights (8-8, 2-5) on Wednesday. Maryland trailed by as many as three goals and the game featured three ties. Jordyn Lipkin also had three goals and JJ Suriano (Bryn Mawr) made 11 saves for the Terps.
No. 10 Johns Hopkins 12, Penn State 11, OT: Lacey Downey and Taylor Hoss combined efforts to lift the host Blue Jays (11-4, 5-2 Big Ten) over the Nittany Lions (7-8, 5-3) on Wednesday. Downey assisted Hoss on the tying goal with 2:49 left in regulation and Hoss returned the favor on Downey’s game-winner with 3:37 left in overtime. Hoss finished with three goals and an assist, Downey had two goals and two assists and Laurel Gonzalez had two goals.
No. 22 Navy 21, Lehigh 6: The visiting Mids (10-5, 5-2 Patriot League) extended their four-goal lead with a 7-0 run in the first half and beat the Mountain Hawks (5-8, 2-5) on Wednesday. Navy was led by Alyssa Chung (Severna Park) with 6 goals and an assist, Tori DiCarlo with four goals and an assist and Emily Messinese (Gerstell) with three goals and two assists. Molly Snow scored twice for Lehigh.
Mount St. Mary’s 12, Iona 7: The visiting Mountaineers (10-5, 6-1 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) built on their one-goal lead with a 6-2 run in the second half to beat the Gaels (6-8, 5-2) on Wednesday. The win secures a share of first place, and a win against Merrimack on Saturday claims the top seed in the conference tournament. Mount St. Mary’s was led by Mackenzi Furlong (4 goals), Anna Salerno (Patterson Mill, 3 goals), Logan Cook (Bel Air, 3 goals) and Brooke Molchanoff (1 goal, 2 assists).
Michigan 13, Johns Hopkins 2: The then-No. 18 Wolverines (10-4, 5-2 Big Ten) stretched their two-goal lead with a 13-0 run that spanned both halves and upset the then-No. 6 Blue Jays (10-4, 4-2) on Sunday. Ava Angello and Taylor Hoss each scored for Hopkins. Michigan was led by Calli Norris (5 goals), Kaylee Dyer (4 goals), Jill Smith (3 goals) and Jane Fetterolf (1 goal).
Maryland 8, Ohio State 5: JJ Suriano (Bryn Mawr) and Caroline Smith each made three saves and the then-No. 7 Terps (10-4, 5-1 Big Ten) held the visiting Buckeyes (8-6, 6-1) to 11 shots on goal to win on Sunday. Maryland was led by Chrissy Thomas with one goal and three assists. The Terps got two goals each from Edmondson, Kayla Gilmore and Kate Sites (Glenelg Country).
Delaware 16, Towson 15: Valerie Thompson (Liberty) gave the host Tigers (6-7, 2-4 Colonial Athletic Association) a three-goal lead with 13 minutes left to play. The Blue Hens (9-5, 5-2) put together a 4-0 run over the final 12 minutes to win on Sunday. Both Thompson and Delaware’s Halen Saroney finished with four goals and an assist.
Division III women
St. Mary’s 8, Mary Washington 6: Madison Lane gave the visiting Seahawks (7-7) a four-goal lead with less than two minutes left to play. The Eagles (10-4) scored twice over the final minute, but St. Mary’s held them off on Wednesday. The Seahawks were led by Sanne Elling (3 goals), Hailey Betch (Severna Park, 2 goals, 1 assist) and Colin Horton (2 goals).
Hood 16, Albright 10: The host Blazers (5-9, 1-3 Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth) trailed by three goals before going on a 10-0 run in the second half to beat the Lions (5-10, 1-4) on Wednesday and end a six-game skid. Julia Gregory scored five of the 10 goals, including the first four. Gregory also had an assist and Menna Salem had four goals.
Messiah 10, No. 5 Salisbury 9, OT: Miranda Mears scored twice during a 3-0 run to give the Sea Gulls a 9-7 lead with 47 seconds left in regulation, but the visiting Falcons answered with a 3-0 run to win on Wednesday. Grace Pettitt scored the game-tying goal for Messiah with four seconds left in regulation and Annalise Keitel had the game-winner with one minute left in overtime. For Salisbury, Mears had three goals and Audrey Harrington (Mt. Hebron) had one goal and four assists.
Susquehanna 13, Goucher 2: The host River Hawks (7-8, 4-3 Landmark Conference) broke a 1-1 tie with a 12-0 run and beat the Gophers (6-9, 1-6) on Wednesday. Emily Burk (Perry Hall) scored both goals for Goucher — the tying goal with 10:34 left in the first quarter and the final goal with 4:42 left in the game. Sydney Lewis (Carver A&T) made 15 saves for the Gophers.
No. 6 Franklin & Marshall 15, McDaniel 4: The visiting Diplomats (12-2, 5-0 Centennial Conference) opened with a 6-0 run and beat the Green Terror (5-9, 0-6) on Wednesday. McDaniel was led by Kat Thayer (Reservoir) with one goal and two assists. Other single goal scorers for the Green Terror included Charlotte Alexander (Chesapeake-AA), Emily Conklin (Westminster) and Addison Utterback.
No. 8 York (Pa.) 15, Stevenson 7: The host Spartans (11-3, 4-0 Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth) opened with a 10-0 run and beat the Mustangs (9-6, 3-2) on Tuesday. Ava Treakle and Olivia Galati each scored twice for Stevenson.
Division II men
No. 5 Seton Hill (Pa.) 18, Frostburg State 2: The host Griffins (13-1) opened with an 11-0 run and cruised past the Bobcats (6-8) on Wednesday. Seton Hill held Frostburg State scoreless until the 11:36 mark of the third quarter. The Bobcats got a goal each from Luke Aspnes and Luke Roach.
Division III men
Hood 10, Albright 8: The visiting Blazers (9-3, 2-2 Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth) scored three of the final four goals in a come-from-behind win over the Lions (1-13, 0-4) on Wednesday. Regan Tesche had a natural hat trick during a 5-0 run and Robbie Wiley (4 goals) scored two of the last three goals for Hood.
No. 18 Swarthmore 15, Washington College 8: The visiting Shoremen (7-8, 1-6 Centennial Conference) took an early lead that the Garnet (11-3, 4-2) erased by the end of the first half on Wednesday. Washington College led 3-0 before Swarthmore used a 7-0 run that spanned both halves to pull away. Colin Gray (Broadneck) made 14 saves for the Shoremen.
No. 15 York (Pa.) 20, No. 10 Stevenson 13: The host Mustangs (10-4, 4-1 Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth) tied the score twice in the fourth quarter but the Spartans (11-3, 4-0) surged ahead on a 9-3 run to win on Wednesday. Stevenson got three goals each from Hunter Bryant, Grant Zick and Max Racich.
Susquehanna 17, Goucher 8: The visiting River Hawks (7-8, 4-3 Landmark Conference) broke a 4-4 tie with an 11-0 run that spanned both halves and beat the Gophers (8-7, 2-5) on Wednesday. Gianni Karem (Mt. Hebron) had four goals for Goucher.
No. 9 Gettysburg 21, McDaniel 3: The visiting Bullets (10-3, 6-0 Centennial Conference) opened with a 13-0 run and beat the Green Terror (4-11, 0-6) on Wednesday. Zach Olvey made 14 saves for McDaniel.
No. 2 Salisbury 15, St. Mary’s 7: The host Sea Gulls (15-0) took an early 7-1 lead and beat the Seahawks (7-6) on Tuesday. Salisbury got four goals each from Michael Leahy and Connor Herraiz. Declan Horton had three goals for St. Mary’s.
