Virginia Beach’s Tide Swim School is offering adaptive swim programming lessons for the Hampton Roads community. That effort will gain further traction because the Chartway Promise Foundation just awarded the school a $10,000 grant to expand. The program makes life-saving lessons more accessible.
Tide Swim School operates year-round with a covered and heated bubble in winter. It’s located at the Larkspur Swim and Racquet Club, at 732 Edwin Drive.
Tide primarily is known for developing top-flight competitive swimmers. But the club says its adaptive program “serves swimmers with a wide range of cognitive, sensory, emotional, and physical differences, including autism, ADHD, Down Syndrome, cerebral palsy, anxiety, sensory processing challenges, and motor delays.”
“Tide believes every swimmer deserves the chance to feel safe, confident and joyful in the water,” Renata Pellino-Porter, Executive Director of Tide Swimming, said in a release. “We are incredibly grateful to Chartway Promise Foundation for their support. This grant removes financial barriers for families.”
