Obituary: Elliott Richard “Bud” Billings

Elliott Richard “Bud” Billings

YARMOUTH – Elliott Richard “Bud” Billings, affectionately called “Bumpa” by his great-grandkids, went home to our Lord and Savior on Dec. 28, 2025, at the age of 87. Bud was born on Feb. 18, 1938, to Hazel (Madden) Billings and Elliott M. Billings. He was married to Virginia “Ginny” Billings for 64 years, a love story marked by resilience and deep devotion. Bud passed just 32 days after Virginia, they are together again eternally.

After his early work as an aircraft mechanic helping fly relief missions to Japan post-World War II, Bud carried that same spirit of service into everything he did. He spent many years working side by side in the construction business his dad had started, building more than roads, building memories and bonds. He enjoyed working as a mechanic for C.R.Tanberg, the State of Maine Department of Transportation, and out of his own garage. Always happiest with tools in hand and grease on his knuckles. Even in retirement, Bud didn’t slow down. He found joy in helping his son with his paving business, continuing to lend his hands and heart wherever they were needed. He was a man of Christ who helped establish and lead men’s group at churches in the area, actively supported the VFW, and dedicated himself to helping wartime veterans. For Bud, work was never just about the job, it was about devotion to the Lord, helping others, and spending time with the people he loved most.

Some of the fondest memories of Bud are him climbing down to the floor to play with his grandsons and claiming grandparent privileges to spoil his grand and great-grandkids. He was kind and gentle, happiest working in his garage and paving alongside his son and grandsons. He cherished teaching all things auto maintenance and repair to his grandsons and great-granddaughter, a testament to his love for passing down knowledge and creating memories.

Bud was predeceased by his beloved wife, Virginia; his brother, Robert Billings; his parents; and his grandson, Jonathan Billings. He is survived by his sisters Linda (Tony) Fondak and Nancy (Norm) Pineau; his son David (Faye) Billings; his grandson James (Megan) Billings; and his great-grandchildren he adored, Hazel, Theodore, and Harvey.

A cherished patriarch guided by the Lord. We love and miss you dearly, Bumpa. Give GG and Jon boy a hug for us.
