Kent Long

BRUNSWICK – Kent Long, 88, of Brunswick, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Sadly, his life was cut short by an unexpected event, leaving his family quite devastated.

He was born on Aug. 23,1937, in Wilkinsburg, Pa.

Kent joined the U.S. Navy in 1955, and served his country for 24 years. He traveled to six out of seven continents, and even climbed Mount Fuji in Japan, but his favorite place was New Zealand.

He was an air traffic controller, a disciplinary officer in the legal department while stationed in Brunswick, Ga., and also a Navy recruiter in Brunswick. He retired from the Navy in 1979, on the USS Constitution, in Boston, Mass.

He then worked for LL Bean in the facilities department, and also towed the original Bean Boot in parades throughout the state, while his granddaughters waved to the crowds from the top. He retired after 15 years.

Kent was a very active member of the Brunswick Elks lodge. He bartended there for many years, volunteered for various activities, even dressing as Santa and the Easter Bunny.

He enjoyed sightseeing, collecting coins and Wades, reading the newspaper, watching TV, his cat Ray, reading his book, and spending time with family at Woodbury Pond Park. He was proud to be the Grand Marshall of the Bath Memorial Day parade, in 2025. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Not a moment goes by when he is not loved and missed.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Shari, twin sisters Joyce and Judy, sisters Beverly and Linda, and brother Kevin.

He is survived by his dear wife of 66 years, Susan, daughter, Robyn Williams of Brunswick, two granddaughters, Brandi Wright of Ft. Pierce, Fla., Adria Buchanan of Auburn, two grandsons, Dane Williams of Auburn, and Dean Williams of Lewiston. Sisters, Barbara of Blackwood, N.J., Susie of Lower Burrell, Pa., brothers, John of Paw Paw, WV and Billy of Henderson, N.C.

A Memorial Service including Navy Funeral Honors will be held at 1 p.m., on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2025, at Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal St., Brunswick. A private committal service will take place in the Spring of 2026, at the Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery in Augusta.
