TJ Biel finished with 17 points and Logan Carey added 14 to help the University of Maine collect its first men’s basketball victory of the season Wednesday night, defeating Boston University 69-59 in a nonconference game at Boston.
The Black Bears (1-11) scored eight of the first 10 points and never trailed against the Terriers (4-7). They ended a 12-game losing streak dating back to last season’s America East championship game.
Boston University, which trailed 33-24 at halftime, pulled within 41-38 with 13:48 remaining before Maine again surged ahead, capped by Keelan Steele’s two free throws with 8:28 to play that made it 52-40. BU then crept within 52-45 but got no closer.
Biel hit 7 of 11 from the field for a Black Bears team that shot 54 percent overall and was 7 of 11 on 3-pointers. BU shot 36 percent.
Maine will next play at 2 p.m. Saturday at home against Canisius.
