High school sports roundup (Dec. 8)

Here’s a roundup of high school varsity action on Monday, Dec. 8.

Girls basketball

Mt. Hebron 47, Long Reach 43: The Vikings opened up the season with a tight win led by Michelle Nzelibe and Pearl Prasartkarnka. Prasartkarnka finished with 13 points, while Nzelibe finished with 12. For Long Reach, Jaiden Bryant had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Reservoir 50, Centennial 24: The Gators opened the season with a commanding win led by Chloe Nguena’s 19 points. Sam Feher added 14 points, while Leah Lauer scored 11 in a well-balanced win. For Centennial, Evy Armstead had 10 points.

Wilde Lake 48, River Hill 35: Maggie Shidle spearheaded the Wildecats in the win with 20 points. Quinn Corkeron added 13 points, while Trinity Chappell had eight. For River Hill, Saniya Carter scored 10 points.

Marriotts Ridge 46, Atholton 33: Riley Jenkins led the way for the Mustangs in the win with 13 points, while both Peyton Albert and Katie Leader had seven points each.

Glenelg 50, Hammond 25: Madison Perry scored a team-high 13 points in the season-opening win, hitting three 3-pointers. MJ Dabiri scored 12 points, while Stephanie Bunker added 10.

Boys basketball

Centennial 54, Reservoir 53: Ryan Moody capped off a stellar 24-point performance with a game-winning layup at the buzzer for the Eagles. For Reservoir, Kai Lewis finished with 13 points while Canaan Chance added 12.

Mt. Hebron 77, Long Reach 72: Noel Igwe powered Mt. Hebron with 26 points in the high-scoring win. Matthew Oak also delivered a strong performance with 18 points, while Jaxon Sherman added 16 points. For Long Reach, Daniel Best finished with a game-high 30 points and Josh Hurd had 26 points and 11 rebounds.

Marriotts Ridge 66, Atholton 55: Aaron Hammann and Sam Tatarov guided Marriotts Ridge to a season-opening win with 24 and 20 points, respectively. Blake Willingham added 11 points for the Mustangs. For Atholton, Jordan Dailey finished with 12 points, while DeMarcus Lamot added 10.

Hammond 57, Glenelg 46: The Golden Bears got their first win under first-year coach Kyle Duffie. Jackson Givens finished with 16 points and six assists, while Josh Terry added 14 points and five rebounds. Peter Yarnell added 10 points off the bench. For Glenelg, Luke Balanis had a team-high 13 points.

Oakland Mills 71, Howard 33: The Scorpions opened up the season with a dominant win over the Lions. Daniel Ndiritu and Caleb Redd led the way with 18 points each, while J.D. McCoy added 14.
