Loveland Pass on U.S. 6 closed for ‘safety concerns’

Loveland Pass, a mountain road on U.S. 6, was closed Monday morning for “safety concerns,” according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

As of 9 a.m. Monday, Loveland Pass was closed in both directions between mile marker 222 and Interstate 70, according to CDOT.

Transportation officials did not specify what safety concerns shut down the highway, but a CDOT camera in the area of the closure at 9 a.m. showed snow-covered roads and strong winds.

In an earlier incident, a stalled vehicle closed the westbound lanes of U.S. 6 along the pass, according to CDOT.

It’s unknown when the highway is expected to reopen.
