Multi-state pursuit on I-95 leads to arrest in Kittery

In the first hours of Sunday morning, Maine State Police arrested a man in Kittery following a high-speed pursuit on Interstate 95 from New Hampshire to Maine.

Just after midnight, Maine State Police were contacted by New Hampshire State Police requesting assistance in the high-speed pursuit of a Dodge pickup truck, according to a release from the police.

The driver, Matthew Olsen, 44 and of Harrison, was driving erratically and speeding. Olsen did not stop for local New Hampshire police and during the chase, rammed one of the New Hampshire State Police’s vehicles.

Maine State Police took over the pursuit northbound on 1-95 once Olsen crossed into Maine on I-95. Olsen drove over a curb at the Kennebunk Rest Area, damaging his tires before getting back on the Turnpike.

Troopers successfully stopped Olsen’s truck using the “precision immobilitzation technique,” in which the police car intentionally makes contact with the rear corner of the fleeing vehicle, causing it to spin out and stop.

Troopers arrested Olsen and he was charged with operating under the influence, eluding an officer, reckless conduct and criminal speed.

As a precaution, troopers took Olsen to a local hospital before he was transported to the York County Jail.
