Horse-drawn wagon rides and visits with Santa are perennially popular during Gorham’s annual tree lighting. The activities this year are on Sunday, Nov. 30, at the Municipal Center at 75 South St.
The rides, along with food trucks, are scheduled for 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Santa visits and reindeer games will be available from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.
A parade of holiday-lighted vehicles will depart J.P. Noonan at 4:30 p.m. and roll up Main Street through the village, turn onto South Street to Morrill Avenue before arriving at the high school parking lot at 5 p.m. Ball Park Road, between the Municipal Center and Robie Park, will be shut down to traffic from 4:15 to 6 p.m.
A tree lighting with Santa and Mrs. Claus leading a countdown is set for 5 p.m. Guests can take photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus in front of the tree.
There will be music, hot chocolate, Dunkin’ munchkins and more.
Volunteer for economic group
The town announced on its website that it needs a volunteer to fill a vacant position on the Gorham Economic Development Corp.
Applications will be accepted until Dec. 11. Those interested in applying should visit the Town Clerk’s Office at the Municipal Center, 75 South St. An application form is available online.

50 years ago
The American Journal reported on Nov. 26, 1975, that Camp Fire Girls had been active in Gorham since 1915 and led by Charlotte Millett until her death in 1972. The group marked its 60th anniversary with a program at Village School. Original members were Dorothy Kimball, Gladys Cargill, Marion Rines, Esther Shendall, Helen Russell, Georgiana Hayes, Margaret Ridlon, Elizabeth Kendall, Ruth Hanson and Grace Grant.
