Utah holiday concerts, theater, dance and more in 2025

The Thanksgiving turkey’s still thawing in the fridge, but that doesn’t mean Christmas isn’t already on people’s minds — particularly people who want to see a favorite performing artist during the holiday season.

Here’s a listing of major concerts and other performances in Utah

The Eccles concerts

The Eccles Theater, at 131 S. Main St., Salt Lake City, has made a tradition of scheduling a lineup of holiday concerts, along with a touring Broadway production. Go to live-at-the-eccles.com for concert tickets.

Friday and Saturday, Nov. 28 and 29 • Gentri, singing trio, performing Christmas music.

Thursday through Tuesday, Dec. 4-9 • Cirque du Soleil’s holiday-themed spectacle “’Twas the Night Before.” (Go to saltlakecity.broadway.com for theater tickets.)

Tuesday, Dec. 16 • Father-daughter music duo Mat & Savanna Shaw perform Christmas music.

Thursday-Saturday, Dec. 18-20 • “A Kurt Bestor Christmas,” with the Utah composer and guests performing holiday music. Guest musicians are violinist Máiréad Nesbitt and singer Alex Sharpe, both former members of Celtic Woman.

Sunday, Dec. 28 • “Rain: A Beatles Christmas Tribute,” mixing the Fab Four’s songs with holiday classics.

Tuesday, Dec. 16 • The annual Christmas Carol Sing Along, presented by the Larry H. and Gail Miller family and The Larry H. Miller Company. Donny Gilbert and the West Valley Symphony perform familiar Christmas songs, with special guest conductor Sterling Poulson. The Lower Lights are the special musical guest; the guest emcee is Yahosh Bonner (of The Bonner Family). Starts at 7 p.m., free admission.

Utah Symphony

If your family’s musical tastes are more orchestral, the Utah Symphony dives wholeheartedly into the holidays. Shows are at Abravanel Hall, 123 W. South Temple, Salt Lake City. Tickets available at UtahSymphony.org.

Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 29-30 • The annual “Messiah” sing-in.

Tuesday, Dec. 2 • The Irish group Celtic Woman.

Friday and Saturday, Dec. 5 and 6 • Richard Strauss’ “A Hero’s Life” is the featured work, with Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto No. 1. Conducted by Markus Poschner, with violinist Vadim Gluzman.

Friday and Saturday, Dec. 12 and 13 • Dvorák’s Symphony No. 7 is the featured work; also on the program: Unsuk Chin’s “subito con forza” and Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3. Conductor Pietari Inkinen and pianist Shai Wosner.

Friday and Saturday, Dec. 19 and 20 • The annual “Holiday Pops Extravaganza,” with a selection of favorite tunes of the season, with vocalists Capathia Jenkins and Ryan Shaw. (The same show will be performed Thursday, Dec. 18, at the Val A. Browning Center, 1901 University Circle, Ogden.)

Saturday, Dec. 20 • The family-friendly “Here Comes Santa Claus!” concerts, with matinees at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. The story will be performed by Kaitlin Mills (as Nöel the elf), Ellesse Hargreaves (as Carol) and Lucas Proctor (as Santa). Jessica Rivero Altarriba conducts.

Tuesday-Wednesday, Dec. 30-31, and Friday-Saturday, Jan. 2-3 • “Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back” in concert, with live musical accompaniment to the 1980 space adventure.

Theater and dance

Ballet West • Dec. 5-27, Ballet West performs its Christmas tradition, “The Nutcracker.” Capitol Theatre, 50 W. 200 South, Salt Lake City. Tickets available at BalletWest.org.
