Burn some calories at these Thanksgiving fun runs. Also: government closures, holiday services adjustments

Thanksgiving may be a lot about sitting around a table with family and friends, but if you’ve got time that morning, or if you need to get the kids out of the house, here’s a list of Thanksgiving fun runs around the Portland metro area.

We’ve also included a list of Oregon and southwest Washington agencies that are closed, or alter their schedules on Thanksgiving, Nov. 27.

Thanksgiving themed fun runs

If you’re the type to get in a 5K run to make up for all that pumpkin pie, several family fun runs are happening this year. Some of them are fundraisers for special causes.

PIR Turkey Trot: Be the first to see the Winter Wonderland lighting display at PIR and get in some exercise before Thanksgiving at this family fun run that’s been going strong since 2015. Note: this one is the night before Thanksgiving. Sign up for one of two family 5K waves, one competitive 5K wave, or one of two Kids Fun Run waves. Kids run free. Start times vary from 5-7:45 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, PIR, 1940 N. Victory Blvd; registration $65; hoodtocoast.com/rs/turkey-trot.

Oregon Zoo Turkey Trot: The 5K race was low on remaining spots just prior to our deadline, but there’s still room in the Tot Trot or Gobble Gallop (both for kids) during this annual event. Runners and walkers welcome. Start at the Oregon Zoo, run through the International Rose Garden and finish on the zoo grounds. Costumes are encouraged. Registration is required in advance. 7:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 27, Oregon Zoo, 4001 S.W. Canyon Road; $30-$45; orrc.net/events/event-list/turkey-trot.

West Linn Turkey Trot Trail Race: Paula Events hosts this annual holiday tradition. Choose from 3.8 miles or the 0.5-mile kids trot. 9 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 27, Mary S. Young Park, 19900 Willamette Drive, West Linn; $45, kids run $10; runwithpaula.com/turkey-trot.
