November 7 2025 – Ellen Pieroni & the Encyclopedia of Soul present “EoS & Friends” show Thanksgiving weekend at Nietzsche’s featuring 5 singers and a full horn section.
Ellen Pieroni is a Buffalo, NY based seasoned sax player, multi-instrumentalist, music educator + promoter. Ellen has been playing the saxophone for 23 years and is the primary songwriter, arranger, and bandleader of smooth-infused soul jazz outfit Ellen Pieroni & the Encyclopedia of Soul, or EoS. The band was featured on NPR’s All Things Considered as one of three “jazz stand outs” for the 2024 Tiny Desk Contest, where Felix Contreras said that “soul jazz is alive and well with…Ellen Pieroni & the Encyclopedia of Soul.”
The Saturday after Thanksgiving (11/29), Ellen is throwing a show at Nietzsche’s – a venue she worked as the talent buyer of for 5 years. The show is billed as EoS & Friends and features the current lineup of the Encyclopedia of Soul; 5 vocalists including Tyler Westcott (Folkfaces), Danielle A. (Diyéne), Tru Journey, Jenna Bruce, and Sara Rodriguez (Saranaide); and a full horn section featuring trombonist Brendan Lanighan (The Airmen of Note) and trumpeter Griffith Kazmierczak.
Sparked by a mutual love of the band Stuff, The Encyclopedia of Soul was founded in 2022. On recordings and on stage, the band features a rotating cast of talented collaborators. The current lineup of EoS includes Adam Bronstein (guitar), Isaiah Gethers (drums), Dom Missana (bass), and Jacob Nicholson (keys).
This show includes special guests “Section” – a jazz trio led by ex-pat jazz bassist and composer Stephen Parisi. A vibrant figure in Chicago’s rich music scene, Stephen has played with an illustrious list of well-known figures in jazz. His debut album “Buddy!” will be released in 2026. Parisi will be joined by local jazz legends George Caldwell (piano) and John Bacon, Jr. (drums).
The show takes place at Nietzsche’s, one of our town’s most legendary and enduring music venues. Doors open at 8:00pm, with Section kicking off the night at 9:00pm. Tickets are available on Eventbrite, and are $15 presale or $20 day of show.
