Opera Vermont’s highly anticipated presentation of William Grant Still’s A Bayou Legend at Chandler Center for the Arts in Randolph makes history as the first opera by a Black composer mounted in the Green Mountain State. Obsession and revenge punctuate the passionate production, set in a Creole village in 20th-century Mississippi and described by the Los Angeles Times as “joyously and disarmingly melodious.”
