Final Thea Art Department of 2025 to Feature Matt TerAvest

The fourth and final 2025 installment of Thea Foundation’s popular Art Department series will kick off on Thursday, Nov. 6.

Artist Matt TerAvest will close out the year’s series with his exhibition “Slow Down. Look Closer.” on view at the Argenta gallery through November. Thursday’s opening reception is free and open to the public and will take place from 5-7:30 p.m., inviting guests to meet TerAvest, view his work and enjoy drinks and light bites while mingling with fellow art enthusiasts.

“Slow Down. Look Closer.” features a collection of watercolor paintings that explore themes of introspection, solitude and vulnerability. Lone figures are captured in moments of quiet revelation that are intimate and sometimes uncomfortable, but always deeply human. Viewers are drawn into the shared experience of self-reflection and truth through his use of color, which is rooted in observation yet heightened for emotional effect.

TerAvest, a Little Rock resident, has taught art for more than 20 years and currently serves as department chair at Parkview Arts and Science Magnet High School. With a bachelor of arts in art education from the University of Central Arkansas and a master of arts in painting from UA Little Rock, TerAvest is a longtime participant in Thea’s Arts Reconstruction and Art Closet programs.
