The Oregon Zoo will offer $13 tickets from Nov. 3 – Nov. 9, half off the regular zoo admission cost for adults.
Admission is free for federal employees out of work because of the government shutdown and for up to three of their family members. (Federal workers will need to show a federal identification at the ticket gate.)
Discount admission overlaps with Polar Bear Week at the zoo, and the birthday of Nora the polar bear who will turn 10 on Thursday, Nov. 6.
It’s one of the last chances visitors have to see Nora in Portland before she moves to a zoo in Madison, Wisconsin later this fall. Zookeepers hope she will breed and raise cubs at her new home.
The Oregon Zoo will replace Nora with Kallik, a young male polar bear from the Saint Louis Zoo.
People interested in visiting the zoo should reserve their discounted ticket online, the zoo says.
