UC Santa Barbara outside hitter Kiersten Schmitt hit .550 with a team-high 13 kills and Layanna Green added 11 kills while hitting .588 for the Gauchos in a 24-26, 25-19, 25-18, 25-22 win over Hawaii tonight at Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.

A crowd of 3,806 saw freshman Cha’lei Reid finish with a match-high 15 kills and middle Bri Gunderson added 13 kills and six blocks for UH, which lost despite getting efficient production from its pin hitters.

Reid, who had hit negative in four of her last six matches, hit a career-best .382 and Tyla Reese Mane added 11 kills and hit .346 from the outside.

Hawaii drops to 6-11 overall and 2-4 in the Big West with its seventh loss in its last nine matches. The Gauchos improved to 12-6 overall and 4-2 in the Big West.

UH will play five of its next six matches on the road beginning at Long Beach State on Friday.
