A 69-year-old motorcyclist died Friday after he crashed into an SUV as it turned onto a Kauai highway, officials said today.
According to the Kauai Police Department, at about 4:45 p.m., a 64-year-old Omao woman driving a 2010 Toyota SUV was making a left turn onto Kaumualii Highway from Omao Road when the vehicle was struck by a 2015 Honda motorcycle traveling east on the highway.
The motorcyclist, who was from Puhi, was taken to Wilcox Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Speed appears to be a factor in the crash, police said in a news release, adding that toxicology results are pending to determine if impairment also played a role.
The highway was closed in both directions for over 2 hours while officers with the KPD’s Traffic Safety Section investigated.
This was Kauai’s sixth traffic fatality of 2025, officials said.
