Meet The Southern Utah Tribune Advisory Committee

Volunteer committee will represent Washington County communities

(Trent Nelson | The Salt Lake Tribune) St. George on Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2025.

When The Salt Lake Tribune decided to launch a newspaper in southern Utah, we started by listening, through a survey and interviews. That won’t stop now that our first issue is in your hand.

We have created The Southern Utah Tribune Advisory Committee, and it includes members of the community who believe in our mission to tell interesting, important and inclusive stories.

They represent small and local business, the arts, health, education and faith.

Our committee members (in alphabetical order) are:

  • Travis Alexander, director of people and culture at Wilson Connectivity
  • Nina Barnes, a community advocate and former vice-chair of the Utah Board of Higher Education
  • Monica Bracken, owner of Rise & Wander Co., a shop on Main Street
  • Stephanie Finck, marketing director of Tuacahn Center for the Arts
  • Christa Hinton, communications manager of St. George Regional Hospital
  • Patricia Jones Horton, vice chair of the Utah Tech University Board of Trustees, former state lawmaker and former CEO of the Women’s Leadership Institute
  • Tom Love, chairman of The Salt Lake Tribune’s board of directors
  • Brenda Pitcher, marketing coordinator at JMI Property Services, and
  • Steven Snow, retired attorney and emeritus general authority and former historian for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
  • Members said they joined to build community, share issues and stories that haven’t been told and to make a difference in Washington County.

“I appreciate the great work of The Tribune,” said Horton. Launching a Southern Utah newspaper and newsletter, called the Red Rock Roundup, will “really make us feel like we’re coming of age.”

Added Barnes: “We need better information [for] people in southern Utah, and getting factual data, research, good information in the hands of our people will make the biggest difference.”

Members will help us in the following ways:

  • Tell us what’s happening in southern Utah that neighbors need to know about.
  • Provide feedback on our work to ensure we are serving all of Washington County.
  • Connect us with potential supporters.
  • Assist in philanthropic activities, providing feedback on donor benefits and assisting in stewardship where possible.
