Netflix warns it will be closing this highway daily during a N.J.-based production shoot

Parts of a state highway in Mercer County will shut down for several days this month as Netflix films scenes for an upcoming production, state officials said.

Starting Monday, Route 133 in East Windsor will be closed and detoured in both directions during the day, according to the New Jersey Department of Transportation.

The weekday closures will run through from Monday to Friday, Oct. 10, and then again from Wednesday, Oct. 15, through Friday, Oct. 17, between 8:30 a.m. and 8 p.m., officials said.

No closures are expected between Saturday, Oct. 11 and Tuesday, Oct. 14.

Electronic message boards will alert drivers to detours and traffic changes. Timing could shift depending on weather or production needs, according to the department.

A full schedule of closures and detours is available on the New Jersey Department of Transportation’s website.

Netflix officials did not disclose Monday what production is being filmed.

The filming is part of New Jersey’s continued push to attract major film and television productions, state officials said.

In May, Netflix broke ground on its planned $1 billion production facility at Fort Monmouth, a 292-acre former Army base being transformed into a major East Coast studio campus. The complex will include 12 soundstages totaling nearly 500,000 square feet, along with space for production support and community amenities once complete.

Last year, over 550 film and television projects were filmed in New Jersey, generating a record $837 million in spending, according to state officials.

Netflix accounted for five of those productions, including “Happy Gilmore 2,” “A Complete Unknown” and “A House of Dynamite,” which together brought in more than $320 million through local hiring, location rentals and other in-state spending.
