Derek Zammit completed 19-of-24 passes for 245 yards and three touchdowns as DePaul, No. 4 in the NJ.com Top 20, pulled away for a 38-14 victory over Seton Hall Prep at Brendan P. Tevlin Memorial Field in West Orange.
With DePaul (3-1) leading 10-7 at halftime, Zammit opened the second half with a 10-yard TD pass to Michael Knox just 2:53 into the third quarter. DePaul broke the game open 49 seconds later when Jaxon Bastante returned an interception 20 yards for a TD that made it 24-7 with 8:18 left in the third.
Zammit, a Washington commit, then threw his second TD pass of the day to Kyron Dubose before Frank Morano’s 3-yard TD run made it 38-7 in the fourth quarter.
Six different receivers caught two or more passes in the win, led by Mason James’ three receptions for 68 yards and Marquan Carter’s four catches for 60 yards. Carter rushed for a team-high 57 yards on 16 carries and Zammit added 47 on four rushing attempts.
Zammit’s first TD pass to Dubose, an 11-yard score, made it 10-0 with just 1:57 left in the first half. But Seton Hall Prep (1-2) answered back by going six plays and 78 yards, culminating with Ty Newcomb’s 22-yard TD pass to Aiden Locket over the middle with just eight seconds remaining.
Lockett had four receptions for 78 yards to lead a Seton Hall Prep team that got a late passing TD from Brady Manzo to Leonard West.
