9th foal born this year joins herd of Outer Banks wild horses

A new foal joined the Corolla herd last weekend, according to a social media post from the Corolla Wild Horse Fund.

A filly became the ninth new member of the herd this year, a recent Facebook post indicated. She joins five other fillies and two colts born in 2025. The gender of another foal, which hasn’t come out of the marshy areas, hasn’t been confirmed yet — but it and the mother are doing fine, according to the post.

The fund didn’t rule out more newborns, saying “it’s not completely out of the ordinary to have a foal born later in the fall … but even if we don’t we are thrilled with this year’s crop!

“They are all healthy and thriving.”

The fund asked people to refrain from approaching and feeding all wild horses.

“These youngsters are the future of the Corolla herd and it’s imperative that we all work together to ensure their survival in the wild,” the post read.
