ACC fines Seminoles $5,000 for field rush
The Atlantic Coast Conference fined Florida State $50,000 for its first violation of the league’s event security policy following its victory Saturday over Alabama.
The violation occurred when fans entered the field after the game. The policy is designed to protect the safety and well-being of athletes, coaches, officials and fans.
All fines collected under the policy are directed to the Weaver-James-Corrigan-Swofford Postgraduate Scholarship Fund, which benefits ACC athletes pursuing graduate education.
Va. Union rolls to opening victory in Ohio
Virginia Union opened its season Sunday by rolling past Miles 45-3 in the Black College Football Hall of Fame Classic at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio.
In a game shown live on NFL Network, running back Curtis Allen set the tone, piling up a Classic-record 185 rushing yards and two touchdowns on just 17 carries. He hurdled a defender on a 53-yard scoring run that put the Panthers up 10–0.
Quarterback RJ Rosales complemented the ground game with efficiency, completing 9 of 15 passes for 120 yards and a touchdown, while also adding 54 rushing yards and another score. VUU outrushed Miles 375 yards to 50.
Rosales’ passing touchdown was a 35-yarder to Ricky Key Jr., a redshirt senior from Woodside High, with 5:18 left in the second quarter.
Tribe Talk to be held Thursdays at Paul’s Deli
William & Mary announced the return of Tribe Talk live from the original Paul’s Deli (at 761 Scotland Street in Williamsburg) at 6:30 p.m. on Thursdays during home game weeks, such as this one. The Tribe play Maine at 6 p.m. Saturday at Zable Stadium.
The show will feature head coach Mike London and longtime Tribe play-by-play announcer Jay Colley. They will be joined by another Tribe head coach and a community partner.
Tribe fans are encouraged to join the live audience and/or listen at tideradiocom.
Liberty RB named CUSA Freshman of Week
Following his first college start, Liberty’s Caden Williams was named the Conference USA Freshman of the Week.
The redshirt freshman helped the Flames to a 28-7 season-opening win over Maine by rushing for 52 yards on nine carries, including a 23-yarder.

Auburn’s Vickers lands pledge from Suffolk’s Williams
First-year Auburn coach Larry Vickers, who guided Norfolk State to unprecedented success, gained a commitment from former Catholic High standout Zaniyah “Zip” Williams.
Williams, a 5-foot-8 guard from Suffolk who’s now with Montverde Academy in Florida, is ranked 93rd among all players in the current senior class by ESPN.

Jamestown graduate wins tourney for West Virginia
West Virginia sophomore Ryan Leach, a Jamestown High graduate, shot a school-record 17 under par for his second collegiate tournament title in leading the Mountaineers to a school-record 55-under total as they won the Island Resort Collegiate in Bark River, Michigan, on Monday.
Leach became the fourth two-time winner in school history. His 17-under 199 beat the previous records of 15-under 201, set by Mark Goetz at the Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate in 2021. Leach finished with rounds of 63-65-71.
WVU beat Purdue by six shots, Michigan by 13 and Michigan State by 23 at the top of the 11-team field.

Hampton’s Strange gains CAA honor
After the first hat trick in program history against a Division I opponent, Hampton University junior midfielder Madisyn Strange was named the Coastal Athletic Association Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.
She became the first Hampton player to earn weekly honors from the CAA in program history and the second all-time to win a league weekly award.
Strange, a former Menchville High star, scored all three of her goals in the second half of a 4-0 victory against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Her first two goals were just 33 seconds apart. She is tied for third in the CAA with her three goals.
Hampton (2-2) returns to action Tuesday with a 6 p.m. match at Chicago State.
