8 Powerball tickets sold in N.J. win $150K, $50K prizes as jackpot soars to $1.1B

The Powerball jackpot has soared to an estimated $1.1 billion for Monday’s Labor Day drawing after no ticket matched all six numbers drawn Saturday night, lottery officials announced.

The massive prize now ranks as the fifth-largest in Powerball history and offers players a cash option of $498.4 million before taxes.

New Jersey lottery retailers sold eight third-prize tickets – two worth $150,000 and six worth $50,000 each.

Nine tickets sold nationally matched all five white balls to win $1 million prizes.

An additional three tickets in Colorado, Indiana and New Hampshire won $2 million prizes by matching all five white balls and including the Power Play option for an extra dollar.

The winning numbers from Saturday’s drawing were white balls 3, 18, 22, 27, 33 and red Powerball 17, with a Power Play multiplier of 3.

Monday’s drawing will mark the 40th since the jackpot was last won in California on May 31.

The current run is approaching the record for consecutive drawings, which stands at 42 and culminated with a $1.326 billion prize won in Oregon on April 6, 2024.

If someone wins Monday’s jackpot, they can choose between the full $1.1 billion paid as an annuity over 30 years (starting with one immediate payment followed by 29 annual payments that increase by 5% each year) or the lump sum cash option.

Powerball tickets cost $2 per play and are sold in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Drawings are held Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. from the Florida Lottery draw studio in Tallahassee.

The odds of winning any Powerball prize are 1 in 24.9, while the odds of hitting the jackpot are 1 in 292.2 million.
