Michael Rapaport’s comedy show in Alabama canceled after ‘protests, threats’: ‘I stand by what I say’

Michael Rapaport took to Facebook on Tuesday afternoon, telling 1.1 million followers that his comedy show in Alabama was canceled after “protests and threats over my support for Israel.”

The actor and comedian, 55, was scheduled to perform that night at the Comedy Club Stardome, a venue in Hoover. The 7:30 p.m. show was part of a tour that runs through January 2026, according to his website.

Rapaport, who’s been an outspoken advocate for Israel during the Israel-Gaza War, announced the Stardome show on July 23 via Facebook, saying he was in Birmingham to film a movie and had scheduled the performance on his night off. Rapaport continued to post about his Stardome concert through Aug. 1.

“I cannot wait,” the actor said in an Aug. 1 Facebook video. “Tickets are available now, but it’s gonna sell out, because I’m Michael Rapaport.”

At 3 p.m. on Tuesday, however, Rapaport confirmed that the show wasn’t happening.

“My show tonight at the Stardome in Alabama was CANCELLED,” his Facebook post said. “I did not cancel. I would never cancel — especially since I’m already here in Birmingham, ready to perform.

“It was shut down because of protests and threats over my support for Israel and for speaking up about the 50 hostages still being held in Gaza. 670 days in captivity — and people are protesting me for demanding their release?

“It’s embarrassing. It’s sad. But I’m not ashamed. I stand by what I say and who I stand with.

“Fortunately, I got to meet some incredible people from Chabad of Alabama today and had the blessing of wrapping tefillin — a ginormous mitzvah and a reminder of what really matters. Am Yisrael Chai.”

Efforts to reach organizers at the Stardome were unsuccessful. As of Tuesday morning, Rapaport’s concert was no longer listed on the venue’s events calendar. A ticket listing remained on Etix that said “not on sale.”

Rapaport, known for his roles in movies and TV shows — including “True Romance,” “Mighty Aphrodite,“ ”Justified, “My Name is Earl” and more — also hosts two podcasts, “I Am Rapaport” and ”Rapaport’s Reality.”

Recent topics on Rapaport’s podcast have included Candace Owens’ interview with Harvey Weinstein, the Sydney Sweeney ad campaign for American Eagle, the movie “Happy Gilmore 2,″ Paramount’s cancellation of “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” and more.

Rapaport, a prolific presence on social media, often shares his views on Israel and the war with Hamas via video clips.

“I know that you’re feeling crazy. I know I’m feeling crazy. I know I’m feeling crazy. You probably are going crazy. Because I feel like I’m going crazy,” Rapaport said in a Tuesday morning Instagram video. “And I’ve only gone through a smidge of what so many people have gone through who are living in Israel. The hostages, the survivors, the hostage friends, the hostage families, the IDF, the wounded, the worried.

“But we can’t. We can’t give in. We have to continue to stay sane. We have to continue to stay focused. We have to continue to stay centered. We have to continue to stay Jewish. We have to continue to stay loud and proud. And I said this before, a rabbi told me one of the things that stuck with me the most in the last two years, since I’ve gotten closer, more in touch, more in tuned, with what it means to be a Jew. He said, ‘Being Jewish is a participation sport. You can’t do it from the sidelines.’ And sometimes it’s like, oh, another holiday. Oh, another Shabbat. Oh, another service. It’s worth it. Torah every day, it’s worth it. Wrapping tefillin every day, it’s worth it. I don’t care how you do it.

“And I ain’t no expert. I don’t claim to be an expert. I’m new to learning and understanding all this. But being Jewish is a participation sport. You got to be in it. You got to be in it to win it. And the more you participate, the more it gives back to you. You do not let them dim our light. We’re not going anywhere. The Jews are not going anywhere. Israel is not going anywhere.”

This isn’t the first time Rapaport has faced the cancellation of a comedy show over his social and political views.

“I had a show in Michigan, in the suburbs of Michigan. canceled because … people were threatening the club, threatening the staff, threatening, you know, to cause trouble,” Rapaport said in an October 2024 interview with Vlad TV. “And the club did everything they possibly could. They couldn’t get guaranteed police protection for the club, for the staff, for myself, so they had to cancel it. And then I had another show in Chicago canceled for the same reason, but that one has been rescheduled.

“And, you know, it was disappointing when that happened. The reason why it was disappointing wasn’t so much for myself, because at first I felt, I kept saying to my wife, ‘I feel embarrassed about it.’ And then I realized it wasn’t so much embarrassment. The reason why it was so disappointing and frustrating and upsetting was because I’ve been so outspoken,” Rapaport said. “And there’s been a lot of people that have been on the fence not to say anything or ‘Don’t say too much’ or ‘Don’t shake the boat’ or ‘Don’t articulate how you feel,’ Jews and non Jews.”

Despite the canceled shows, Rapaport told Vlad TV he’ll continue to speak his mind in the future, using the same “fierce tone” he uses now.
