1 dead, 1 injured in N.J. shooting, authorities say

One man was killed and another was seriously wounded in a shooting in Newark on Saturday evening, authorities said Tuesday.

Police responded to the 300 block of Bloomfield Avenue at about 11:55 p.m. Saturday, where they found two people struck by gunfire, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office said.

Alvis Jottanael Perez-Lirlano, 33, of Elizabeth, was pronounced dead after being transported to University Hospital in Newark, the prosecutor’s office said.

The other victim is currently in stable condition, authorities said.

The investigation remains ongoing. No additional information was available Tuesday afternoon.
