Ballard FC falls to Vermont in USL League Two championship match

Max Kissel scored under a minute into stoppage time and the Vermont Green beat visiting Ballard FC 2-1 in the USL League Two championship match on Saturday at Virtue Field in Burlington.

Vermont captured its first national title and finished the season undefeated at 12-0-3.

Ballard appeared to take the lead in the 39th minute when Sean Sent’s volley looked like it crossed the goal line, but the goal was not awarded and the first half ended scoreless.

Julien Le Bourdoulous, who was named the MVP of the final, scored in the 50th minute to give the Green a 1-0 lead.

University of Washington forward Charlie Kosakoff netted the equalizer for Ballard in the 62nd minute and the teams played even from there before the late winner from Vermont.

In just its fourth season in USL2, Ballard was playing for its second national title. The Bridges won the championship in 2023.
