Before stand-up comic Mohammed “Mo” Amer brought his semi-autobiographical Netflix comedy series, Mo, to our screens, it was meant to be a short film to open up one of Amer’s stand-up specials. But thanks to some encouraging words from comedy icon Dave Chappelle, it would eventually be fleshed out into the televised saga that became a hit. Mo the series — which kicked off in 2022 — explores Amer’s and his family’s lived experiences as Palestinian refugees navigating the U.S. immigration system in Houston, Texas.
