Desiree Grace, a longtime federal prosecutor and current first assistant U.S. attorney, said she intends to assume the role of U.S. Attorney for New Jersey on Saturday, despite efforts by the Trump administration to “remove” her from office just hours after her appointment.
In a public statement posted to LinkedIn Wednesday evening, Grace acknowledged the political controversy surrounding her appointment but said she plans to follow the court’s order.
Grace was appointed Tuesday by U.S. District Court judges to replace interim U.S. Attorney Alina Habba, whose 120-day term expires Friday at midnight.
