The Warwick Little League Senior Baseball All-Stars have advanced to the final of the Southeast Regional tournament in Safety Harbor, Florida, and are one win away from the Senior League World Series.
The team, made up mostly of 16-year-olds from Newport News, posted a 13-6 victory over North Carolina and a 10-9 win over Florida on Monday in elimination games.
Warwick will face South Carolina in the title game at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Warwick has won four straight games since falling to South Carolina 17-0 in its tournament opener.
Chesapeake Legion team headed to states
The Chesapeake Post 280 SEALs swept a two-game Coastal League Division Series on Sunday to earn a berth in the American Legion state tournament, defeating Williamsburg Post 39 12-1 and then 12-3 at Warhill Sports Complex.
In the first game for the reigning state champion SEALs, Reid Downs was 3 for 5 with a double and an RBI, Colin Lebel drove in two runs and pitched two shutout innings without yielding a hit and Xavier Doon hit a two-run double, walked and stole a base.
In the second game, Trey Campos struck out five and walked one in four innings, and Keegan Haesler scored three runs, stole two bases and reached base four times.

- The Norfolk Tides open a six-game road series at Lehigh Valley with a 12:05 p.m. game Tuesday. The Tides went 1-2 in three home games against Syracuse since a four-day break.
- The Old Dominion men’s tennis team has earned ITA All-Academic Team honors, while the Monarchs’ Aryan Saleh has been named an ITA Scholar-Athlete. Saleh went 19-11 in singles, helping ODU win its third straight Sun Belt Conference title.
- The Hampton University men’s and women’s tennis teams picked up ITA All-Academic Team awards, and nine Pirates players were ITA Scholar-Athletes: Benjamin Mwanza, Kevin Jorquera, Yanozie Amadike, Aryan Arora and Donte Armbrister from the men’s team and Meri Okuwaki, Masa Mitic, Serena Bryan and Sofia Sokolova from the women’s team.
- Regent University has named former Virginia Wesleyan assistant coach Brianna Cooper as its first softball coach.
