HFD investigates cause of Waianae two-alarm fire

Firefighters extinguished a blaze at single-story home in Waianae this afternoon, and investigators are working to determine the cause of the two-alarm emergency.

Honolulu Fire Department officials said firefighters responded to a 4:03 p.m. 911 call for a building fire at 86-058 Analipo Street in Waianae, and responded with 8 units staffed with 24 personnel.

The HFD Fire Captain of the first responding unit upgraded the seriousness of the incident and requested additional personnel en route after seeing a column of smoke rising into the air. He arrived on the scene at 4:08 p.m. with the first unit, and reported finding smoke and flames emanating from the building’s side.

Firefighters reported that they brought the fire under control by 4:14 p.m. after having secured a water supply and initiated an aggressive fire attack with a large, truck-mounted nozzle and handlines.

Firefighters searched the building for occupants, but found no one inside. They performed overhaul techniques to look for hidden fires in the void spaces, and reported that the fire was extinguished by 5:21 p.m.

HFD said all personnel were accounted for with no reports of injuries.

HFD said that they requested that the HFD Fire Investigator determine the origin and cause of the fire and provide damage estimates, and will provide an update once that report is complete.
