FC Cincinnati derails Real Salt Lake with 87th-minute goal

RSL’s unbeaten streak is snapped at five games.

Real Salt Lake was a few minutes away from extending its unbeaten streak to six games on Saturday night in Sandy, before FC Cincinnati scored in the 87th minute and walked away with a 1-0 victory in a Major League Soccer matchup.

Luca Orellano scored a spectacular goal with an assist from Brian Anunga to spoil RSL’s night. Cincinnati, sitting in second place in the Eastern Conference, improved to 15-6-3.

RSL, in 10th place in the West, fell to 8-11-4.

Real Salt Lake had a 17-15 edge in shots in the game, including a 7-4 advantage in shots on goal. But Cincinnati goalkeeper Roman Celentano made seven saves to earn the shutout.

RSL goalkeeper Rafael Cabral made three saves.

Real Salt Lake is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, July 26, against the San Jose Earthquakes at America First Field (7:30 p.m., Apple TV).
