Eight ODU football players earn preseason all-league honors in Athlon – The Virginian-Pilot

COLLEGE FOOTBALL

Eight Old Dominion football players have made Athlon Magazine’s preseason All-Sun Belt team.

Offensive lineman Zach Barlev, defensive end Kris Trinidad and linebackers Jason Henderson and Mario Thompson each were on the first team. Kicker Riley Callaghan and quarterback Colton Joseph were third-team selections, while linebacker Koa Naotala and safety Mario Easterly made the fourth team.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL

NSU adds Chavis to coaching staff

Norfolk State men’s basketball coach Robert Jones has added one of his former players to his coaching staff in Kyonze Chavis.

He was a volunteer assistant for the Spartans last season. He played four seasons for the Spartans after transferring from Colby Community College.

  • The NCAA has granted Virginia Tech basketball recruit Antonio Dorn, a 7-0 center from Germany, three years of eligibility. Meanwhile, recent Hokies signee Neoklis Avdalas, a 6-8 wing player from Greece, has averaged 9.7 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists in helping his home country go 3-0 and win Group B of the FIBA U20 EuroBasket 2025. Greece advanced to the round of 16.

COLLEGE SOFTBALL

VWU’s Cooper earns national honor

Virginia Wesleyan’s Brianna Cooper has been named the Easton/NFCA Assistant Coach of the Year in Division III softball.

Cooper finished her first season with the Marlins as the program’s pitching coach and lead recruiter.
