Spencer Conrad and Matthew Carter took checkered flags in Modified 30-lap races Saturday on Langley Speedway’s Shawn Balluzzo Memorial night in Hampton.
Conrad beat Brad Adams by 590-thousandths of a second in the first race, clocking a best lap time of 17.016 seconds. Rick Gdovic was third among six competitors, 1.137 behind Conrad.
In the encore, Matthew Carter won by 0.874 of a second over Adams, while Conrad was a distant third, 4.961 seconds off the lead.
Conrad, who earned his third victory of the year, began the night tied with Adams atop the standings.
The Modified races took the spotlight in part because Balluzzo won a record 11 championships in that division before dying in a 2020 Langley crash.
In other divisions:
Southern Ground Pounders: A touring series came to Langley with seven competitors, and Shayne Lockhart of Chesterfield County won the race. Kevin Floars was the runner-up.
Limited Late Model: The night’s longest race, lasting 75 laps and 23:08, went to points leader Ayden Millette by 1.953 seconds over Atley Wiese. Brian Rundstrom Jr. placed third in the field of 14, 6.868 seconds behind Millette — who started the evening ahead of Jacob Derrick by five points.
Pro Six: Matt Dail dominated a 25-lap, five-driver race, winning by 12.914 seconds over Chris Bechtel in about 7 1/2 minutes. Jaxon Bone took third, 15.118 seconds behind. It was Dail’s second victory over the year.
UCAR: Thomas Fontaine emerged victorious among 13 competitors, slipping past Brent Burgess by 459-thousandths of a second on the last of 25 laps. It was fourth win of the year for Fontaine, the points leader.
Jason Aukland was third in a race that lasted more than 13:40, 0.525 of a second off the lead.
Enduro: Zac Herdlein steered his way to victory in a 30-lap race, taking his fourth win of the season and expanding his points lead.
Fontaine was second and Alex Floroff third.
