Body of missing paddleboarder recovered from Chatfield Reservoir

A missing paddleboarder was found dead Monday night in Chatfield Reservoir after boats and divers searched the water for hours, according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife.

The man was sharing a paddleboard with his two children when a strong wind gust knocked them into the reservoir at about 4:25 p.m. Monday, according to a news release from the agency.

Other paddleboarders nearby rescued the children, but the man disappeared, agency officials said.

Divers with South Metro Fire Rescue and West Metro Fire Rescue, Colorado Parks and Wildlife park rangers and the wildlife agency’s Marine Evidence Recovery Team searched the water for hours with sonar and an underwater drone.

They found the man’s body nearly three hours later, at 7:15 p.m. Monday, agency officials said. He was not wearing a life jacket.

The man will be identified by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.
