Injured hiker airlifted from Nuuanu Trail

The Honolulu Fire Department’s Air 1 helicopter airlifted an injured hiker to safety from the Nuuanu Trail this morning.

HFD received a 911 call at 9:10 a.m. reporting that a female in her 20s was hiking with three other people for about an hour when she suffered a lower leg injury and couldn’t continue on her own.

Three HFD units staffed with 13 personnel were dispatched, with the first unit arriving on the scene 10 minutes later to secure a landing zone nearby to prepare for a search-and-rescue operation.

Rescuers on foot found the injured woman at 9:54 a.m. and provided basic life support treatment and prepared her for extraction by Air 1. She was then safely airlifted to the landing zone, where her medical care was transferred to a Honolulu Emergency Medical Services team at 10:14 a.m.

The rest of her hiking party descended the trail on their own.
