The Arkansas Repertory Theatre is turning up the volume this month with a new production of the iconic rock musical “Hair,” a boundary-breaking celebration of peace, protest and psychedelic joy. Running July 8-27, the show is the latest installment in The Rep’s 2025 SummerStage season.
With performances scheduled Tuesdays through Sundays at The Rep’s downtown Little Rock location, audiences can expect a high-energy journey back to 1960s New York. The musical follows a “tribe” of free-spirited youth navigating love, war and identity during one of the most turbulent times in American history. At its center is Claude, a young man caught between his beliefs and his draft notice. Featuring beloved anthems like “Aquarius,” “Let the Sunshine In” and “Good Morning Starshine,” the production promises to strike a chord with both longtime fans and first-time viewers.
First premiering on Broadway in 1968, “Hair” quickly became a cultural phenomenon, known for its rock score, bold themes and groundbreaking portrayal of counterculture. The show has since been staged across more than 25 countries and earned a Tony Award in 2009. More than 50 years later, its messages of resistance and hope remain strikingly relevant.
“Hair” is rated R for adult language and themes, and is recommended for mature audiences only.
Pay-what-you-can performances will be held July 8-10 and tickets to these discounted shows must be purchased in person on July 8 from 9-10:30 a.m.
