Residents in the metro area, especially on the west side, will wake to gloomy clouds Wednesday, some of which may drop light rain through the morning hours.
The National Weather Service says we’ll only see minimal rain amounts Wednesday as a front progresses inland. The coast should see 0.05-0.10 inches, and the Portland/Vancouver area only a trace to 0.05 inches. Other locations in the Willamette Valley will stay mostly dry.
Portland’s best chances of showers are before the noon hour. Skies will stay mostly cloudy through the early afternoon. The high should reach near 72 degrees.
Those living in or traveling through the Columbia River Gorge should expect breezy conditions Wednesday with westerly winds gusting to 25-35 mph through the western portions of the gorge and into the upper Hood River Valley.
High pressure returns for a short stay Thursday bringing partly sunny skies. Portland’s high on Juneteenth will reach about 73 degrees.
Clouds move back in overnight as a much cooler and wetter system approaches northwest Oregon and southwest Washington from the north. Forecasters say there is excellent agreement among weather models that an upper level trough will dip down from the northeast Pacific Ocean dropping temps into the low-to-mid 60 from Friday and into the weekend.
Portland will see a wet end to the work week with showers likely throughout the day and a high that plummets to about 63 degrees.
There’s also a 15-20% chance of thunderstorms Friday which could bring heavy showers at times, lightning, and gusty winds.
Saturday will be another wet day with showers under cloudy skies. The high will only reach about 60 degrees, which is about 15 degrees colder than average during mid June.
Forecasters believe this will be a good shot of much-needed rain with chances of seeing at least a half inch from Friday morning through early Sunday standing at 50-70% in most Willamette Valley locations.
Extended forecasts show chances of a few showers lingering early on Sunday, then gradual clearing and some warming. The high on Sunday should hit about 70 degrees.
Dry weather is expected to continue as high pressure builds back in on Sunday and into next week. Temperatures should also rebound to near normal.
