Two days after longtime UVA baseball coach Brian O’Connor announced he was leaving to become Mississippi State’s coach, Cavaliers infielder Eric Becker has entered the transfer portal, according to multiple media outlets.
The 6-3, 190-pounder out of Thiells, New York, hit .368 with nine homers and a team-leading 52 RBIs this season. He also led UVA with 54 runs and 21 doubles.
Becker was one of 56 invitees to join the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team Training Camp.
- William & Mary’s Ryan Feczko, Derek Holmes, Ben Parker, Nick Lottchea and Anthony Greco have been named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team. To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average and be at least a sophomore.

UVA coach earns region honor
UVA golf coach Bowen Sargent has been named the 2025 Golf Pride Grips East Region Coach of the Year for the first time in his career.
He was one of six coaches nationally to be recognized by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
Sargent guided the Cavaliers to their most successful season in program history in his 21st year as they won their first ACC championship and finished as runner-up in the NCAA championship.

ODU star is Academic All-American
Old Dominion’s Sofia Johnson has made the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America third team.
The London native went 26-6 this season and finished the year ranked No. 22 in the country. She became the first ODU women’s tennis player to earn CSC Academic All-America honors since Mily Kannarkat in 2001.
A two-time Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year, Johnson posted a 3.70 GPA while majoring in business analytics.
UVA’s Elaine Chervinsky made the first team, while teammate Melodie Collard was on the second team and Annabelle Xu joined Johnson on the third team.

- Virginia Tech women’s basketball coach Megan Duffy has named Stephen Fishler as the program’s general manager on Tuesday. Fishler comes to Blacksburg after three years at Rutgers, where he served as the chief of staff for the women’s basketball program.
