Ron Sanchez will join Scott Drew’s Baylor staff as the associate head coach, the Bears announced.
Sanchez served as Virginia’s interim head coach last season following the retirement of Tony Bennett. Sanchez guided the Cavaliers to a 15-17 record before the school announced that he would not be retained.
Sanchez spent a total of 11 seasons during two stints with the Cavaliers, including four seasons as an associate head coach under Bennett. Sanchez’s first stint with UVa lasted from 2009-18 before he took the head coaching job at Charlotte.
Sanchez led the 49ers to a 72-78 record and the 2023 CBI championship during his five seasons as head coach from 2018-23 before returning to UVA as an associate head coach in June 2023.
Former Virginia assistant Jason Williford is reportedly joining Ed Cooley’s staff at Georgetown, though the school has not made a formal announcement.
Kyle Guy, who served as a special assistant for the Cavaliers last season and helped them win the 2019 NCAA championship, is now an assistant coach at Nevada. Former UVA player and assistant coach Isaiah Wilkins joined Mark Madsen’s staff at California.
