The Arkansas Repertory Theatre kicks off its 2025 SummerStage season with a powerful new production rooted in Southern storytelling and musical tradition. “Me and the Devil,” a world-premiere play written and directed by Little Rock native Steve H. Broadnax III, runs now through June 8.
Set outside a juke joint in southeast Arkansas, the drama unfolds as a legendary blues musician faces the ultimate test of legacy and redemption. After striking a fateful deal at the crossroads, the icon must now argue his case before an “infernal jury” in a supernatural courtroom steeped in history, soul and sound. The production blends haunting narrative with live music to explore the cultural roots and moral complexities of the blues.
An afterparty will be held upstairs in the theater’s “juke joint” following the performances on Thursday, May 29, and Saturday, May 31. Musicians like Bijoux, Ricardo Richardson, David Lyve Watkins, Shannon Boshears and Genine LaTrice Perez will be performing live rockin’ music. Plus, there will be Southern fried food and drinks.
