I am the Queen of Team Never Check A Bag whenever I travel, and that is 100% thanks to the Beis Travel Backpack.
I once read a statistic that seven out of every 1,000 checked bags go missing, and that stat was all I needed to learn to fit everything I need in a backpack and carry-on suitcase.
I haven’t checked a bag when flying since before 2020. I have several methods for fitting everything in my travel bags, but it also helps that I have a United and JetBlue card. I always have a good boarding group when I fly, and I know I will be able to put a carry-on suitcase in the overhead compartment and my personal item (my backpack) will fit under the seat in front of me.

The Beis Travel Backpack is a backpack, obviously. It can be used for day-to-day bag needs, but it is created for travel and can be used as a personal item or a carry-on bag when flying.
Not to be confused with the expansive collection of 9 backpacks now offered by Beis, my bag is the Travel Backpack. I bought mine in 2022, when Beis only sold two backpacks: this and the Backpack Diaper Bag.
The feature that makes the Travel Backpack more impressive than all of the others is that it fully unzips and can be opened to lie flat like a suitcase. This is a perk that makes it very easy to pack this bag to maximum capacity.

Beis Backpack Price
The Travel Backpack now sells for $118. This is quite a bit more than what I paid in 2022, when it was between $78 and $88, depending on the color you wanted. However, when I bought my bag, the $78 BÉISics Backpack did not exist.
I have seen the Travel Backpack go on sale for 40% to 50% off, depending on the sale season. The Warehouse sale in February had this backpack marked down by 50%.
It is worth noting, this was recently renamed to the Travel Backpack. When it first launched, it was just the Beis Backpack. With the release of several other backpacks over the last few years, it was updated to properly identify this is the backpack you’d want to buy when traveling.
Does Beis have a diaper bag backpack?
Beis sells two diaper bag options: The Diaper Backpack Bag and The Ultimate Diaper Backpack. The bags retail for $148 to $198 and come in up to four colors.
The former is the original diaper bag and the only other backpack that was available when I got my Travel Backpack in 2022.
The Ultimate Diaper Backpack is the upgraded, more luxe diaper bag offered by Beis. As I currently have no kids, I haven’t gotten a use out of those yet, but intend to put the Ultimate on my baby registry in the future.

When I bought this bag on 2022, there were three colors available. Black, Beige, and Olive. And Olive was out of stock when I bought mine! Now Black is actually OOS (but tends to get restocked often).
In 2025, the Beis Travel Backpack is sold in eight colors (two are currently OOS, Black and Slate).

The color options are great, but I do wish this bag looked a little cuter. The Rucksack and the Expandable Backpack from Beis are certainly more aesthetic designs, but offer less space and functionality than the Travel Backpack.
I hope that as Beis continues to expand its product offerings, perhaps the Travel Backpack will be sold in some fun patterns to liven up the look of this bag. Or, perhaps it’ll be offered in a neoprene material, to give it a fresh face but with the same perfect design.

As I said, I’ve had this bag for years now, and I’ve used it for every vacation I’ve gone on since 2022. I’ve debated getting a new carry-on roller to try, but I intend to wear this Beis Backpack until it is just a single thread of fabric.
Is the Beis Backpack a good personal item?
Yes! That is exactly what I use it for.
My method for avoiding checking a bag is having a personal item (my Beis backpack) and a carry-on suitcase. I also tend to wear a lululemon Everywhere Belt Bag across my chest to keep my ID, gum, phone, and lip gloss close to me while traveling. That last bag is technically not allowed, but I am able to stuff the belt bag inside my backpack if a gate agent asks me to consolidate my items. I have only ever had to consolidate once, and that was during all of this United and Newark airport delay chaos.
Otherwise, I’ve used this method for three plus years and it’s been seamless. I’ve gone to Dollywood, Disneyland, Disney World, Colorado, New York City, Los Angeles, and all over New Jersey with this backpack. I’ve taken it as my personal item on United, JetBlue, and Delta without any issue. Depending on the size of the plane, it can be a little tight under the seat (particularly on Delta, but I personally don’t fly Delta often), but it still always fits.

This backpack fits a lot. I start by packing this backpack while it is fully unzipped and laid out completely flat on my bed. I tend to put my bulky shoes in my carry-on bag, and then my flatter or squishier shoes in my backpack. I also put my Vera Bradley travel case in my backpack, with my socks, shorts or leggings, a spare t-shirt or two, underwear, my favorite stuffed animal, a book, and other odds & ends.
The outer pocket of this backpack is a huge plus, as it can fit a book; shout out to the recent Hunger Games book that I stuffed in this pocket. But along with a novel, I also fit a MacBook charger, a Fitbit charger, an iPhone 15 charger, a daily pill case, AND a travel pill organizer.
The laptop sleeve fits my computer, along with any papers I might be traveling with. I don’t travel with a water bottle every time, so I’ll use those two exterior pockets for holding snacks or food.
Once I’ve got this filled, I zip it up and stand the backpack up. This movement allows things to shift around and I am always able to fill the backpack even more after. This works out perfectly because I always find that around this stage of packing, I’ve forgotten something and need to stuff it in my backpack.
Beis Backpack Cons

There are no cons to this bag’s functions, but that price increase is a huge con. This backpack went up in price by $30 to $40 in only two years. This increase occurred gradually over the last two years, but might also have been further increased due to tariffs, as the brand sent out emails to consumers earlier this year about tariffs that directly said, “Costs are up, and unfortunately, our prices will have to follow suit.”
While the price increase is a big ding against this, I have used my bag for three years, and it is in perfect condition. The only thing that has had any wear and tear is the zipper tab. The paint has begun to wear off of the tabs, but the actual zipper still functions excellently.
If the bag is still made the same, which it looks to be, it holds up well. I don’t exactly store this carefully, either. It lives under my bed and gets yanked out for every weekend trip, or for every vacation I take. It has seen the worst of the Newark airport, lived through delays in Orlando and Denver, been tossed around the trunk of a car, and still is good to go.
If that price increase gives you pause, my recommendation would be to try and get this during one of Beis Warehouse sales, or at Black Friday.

When do Beis bags usually go on sale?

Beis hosts an annual warehouse sale, where products are typically at least 40% off.
