Rumson-Fair Haven, No. 14 in the NJ.com Top 20, piled on the scoring in the fourth quarter to open the season with an 8-4 win over St. Joseph (Met.) at Rutgers University in Piscataway.
The Falcons (0-1) tied the game by outscoring the Bulldogs (1-0) 3-1 in the third quarter but RFH took back control by going on a 4-0 run in the fourth.
RFH led 3-1 at the half.
Britt Lumsden led the way with two goals and one assist. Luke Lydon, Grayson Goldin and Liam Haggerty each posted a goal and one assist.
Beau Devine, Kevin Collard and Teddy Whitehouse each scored once for RFH. Peter Kessler made nine saves in the cage for the Bulldogs.
Zach MacDougall posted a hat trick for St. Joe’s while Matt Comer added one goal.
Nick Zaneto made 11 saves in the loss.
