Hampton police arrest 2 in 2024 homicide investigation

Investigators arrested two Hampton men Monday for their alleged roles in a 2024 homicide that occurred yards away from a Hampton elementary school.

Hampton police, with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service, arrested 24-year-old Re’ al Butler and 25-year-old J.C. Butler, according to a statement from the Hampton Police Division.

The men each face multiple charges, including felony murder, police said, for a homicide that occurred at a home on Old Buckroe Road on June 1, 2024.

That’s across the street from Robert R. Moton Elementary School.

In 2024, first responders found 26-year-old Martez Johnson Corey and after attempting life-saving efforts, pronounced him dead.

Police did not immediately respond to inquiries regarding suspects’ motives or other circumstances of the investigation, which haven’t been disclosed since police began the investigation.
