Buffalo, NY – On April 12th, the Employee Ownership as Succession Planning event hosted by Cooperation Buffalo in partnership with Buffalo State University’s Small Business Development Center will feature three leading business professionals dedicated to informing current business owners of the methods and strategies of converting their businesses to employee ownership. This event is perfect for business owners in the Western New York community who are looking for options as they plan to move on from business ownership and operation. Cooperation Buffalo aims to show them an alternative to closing their doors or selling to a 3rd party.
Employee Ownership as Succession Planning provides business owners the opportunity to pass down their current business operations to trusted employees, giving them additional options and peace of mind as they think about retirement or moving on to other business ventures.
This event will be hosted at Rockwell Hall at Buffalo State University on Saturday, April 12, from 10am-12pm. Leading the talks are three panelists discussing the process of converting to employee ownership, along with several other topics. The panelists will include Michael Zak, a cooperative business developer with Cooperation Buffalo with 20 years of small business experience, including 10 years of co-owning Gro-op; Christa Daring, the project officer and conversions specialist with BRED (Baltimore Roundtable for Economic Democracy) as well as a co-founder of SWOP Baltimore; and Jonathan Johnsen, a labor and employment lawyer with Creighton Johnsen & Giroux, and author of Cooperative Business Law in NYS. They will cover any and all technical details that may arise in the conversion of a business from owner to owners, such as tax, accounting, and other legal considerations.
